The odds makers in Vegas have the Lakers as the pre-season favourite. With all of the talent in the NBA, that is certainly a tough bet. The Eastern Conference has the defending champion along with many improved teams. But the Lakers will have to worry about their highly contested Western Conference. Their mission to get back to the finals starts on the NBA’s opening night against a young and gifted Portland team. It will be great to see the long awaited debut of the 2007 number one draft pick, Greg Oden, who missed all of last year recovering from knee surgery. He will be matched up against L.A.’s young center, Andrew Bynum, who is also making a return from a knee injury.
