The 2008 Ryder cup returns to American soil and will get underway at the Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, Kentucky. The course was designed by professional golfer Jack Nicklaus and is the perfect setting for the American team to get another shot at the Europeans after their close defeat in 2006. They have not won this tournament since 1999 and will have an even tougher time this year with the absence of the injured Tiger Woods. For the first time since their last victory, the opening matches of a Ryder Cup will feature the alternate-shot format. The matches involve various competition between players selected from two teams of twelve. The winner of each match earns a point for their team and if any match is tied after 18 holes then a half point would go to the winner. Nick Faldo will captain for Team Europe and Paul Azinger for Team USA.
