Pro tennis continues its tour in the Far East with a stop in Beijing, the capital city of China, for the always popular China Open. This combined ATP and WTA event first debuted in 1993 but started in 2004 for the women. It is played outdoors on hardcourts. Unique to this tournament is the fact that it was the first one outside of the USA to use the Hawk-Eye system, which is a computer system used to track the path of the ball. The local Chinese fans will be eager to see one of their countrywomen find a way to win this event, which has yet to happen. The women's defending champion, Agnes Szavay of Hungary, won a thrilling victory here in 2007 when she defeated Jelena Jankovic in three sets. Fernando Gonzalez will be trying to repeat in the men's tournament.
