French Open King Rafael Nadal 2008 (Gettyimages)
Rafael Nadal was in dazzling form as he completely overpowered his arch rival Roger Federer to win 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 to chalk up his fourth straight French Open triumph on the famous Roland Garros clay. From the moment Nadal broke Federer in the opening game he had the Swiss maestro running around the court trying in vain to keep up with his pace, force and accuracy.
Federer managed to stage a fightback in the second set to tie the scores at 3-3, but from that point onwards he was pounded into total submission as Nadal took the next 9 games without reply to retain the Chatrier trophy. Nadal received the cup from the legendary Bjorn Borg whose French Open record of 28 straight victories was equalled in this final. Given the emphatic nature of this win, there must now be questions as to whether Federer will be able to defend his Wimbledon crown if Nadal maintains this form on grass.
