The Pilot Pen Tennis tournament takes place just before the start of the fourth and last Grand Slam tournament of the season, the U.S. Open and is played on the same hardcourt surface. The first event took place in 1985 in Stratton Mountain, Vermont and moved to its current home in New Haven, Connecticut in 1990. Many big names have won here since then, including Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport, and Venus Williams who won an incredible four years straight. The current champion is Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia who is the world’s fourth ranked player.
