As hard as it is to believe, this tournament dates all the way back to 1899 when it was won by Myrtle McAteer over Juliette Atkinson in three sets. Currently the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open, or the Cincinnati Masters which it is better known as among tennis fans is a Tier III event on the WTA Tour. It is played on outdoor hardcourts in front of very large crowds in Cincinnati, Ohio. Lindsay Davenport was the last American to win this Midwestern event in 2004 and the current champion is Anna Chakvetadze of Russia who defeated Akiko Morigami of Japan in 2007.
